MXF + HDV workflow
Hi,
i have to mix HDV footage (proRes converted 25p) and EX1 footage (MXF 25p). The EX1 footage has been imported in Vegas(PC) and HDV footage has been imported in FCP7(MAC). Now i’m wondering which format of the Ex1 footage should I ask for in order to mix it in the HDV timeline on FCP7: mpg2/mov/h264? -

Export to XDcam MXF from Vegas, take that to FCP and import trough the XDcam import app. (free from sony)
Should give you nice quality and a fast workflow. Now if the mixed codecs give you trouble, you can always transcode to one or the other, depending on the amount.
Do not worry about file size differences, XDcam in your situation will be as good as Prores.Bouke

Hi Bouke, i’ve tried but it doesn’t work:
got mfx clips (already converted/imported in Vegas by XDCAM Transfer app)
tried to put them in the XDCAM Transfer App for Final Cut ..but it doesn’t see them!lokks like something gets missing through these tranfer paths.
maybe i should get the “raw” material form the SxS card or its backup folder?
no way to open an mxf file..just VLC let me see that..

EDIT: Nope, sorry, my mistake … it only plays MXF’s if you already have their MXF Import QT solution.
