music creation with loops?
Posted by Mark Weaver on December 13, 2005 at 10:29 pmDoes anyone actually use Audition to create
music with loops? I never read about issues
other then “Can’t find the loops”. Just curious
how people go about it and where to they get
more loops? I know that Sony has a bunch for
ACID, but not sure if these can be used or
how to use them. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Personally I have always composed and played my own music, but because I am doing a weekly fishing program now I am going to try and do some composing with the Audition loops … I will let you know how it goes ……….. WILLIE

Yes, I used the Audition Loopology loops to compose a piece for a school Arts & Dance exhibition – the samples were excellent, very easy to mix & match, and nobody guessed that it wasn’t ‘real’ music !?
I’ll be using it again whenever the need arises, I get the time, and I want to avoid copyright issues.Tony

Congrats on the fishing show. I’d love to hear how
you use the loops to create your music. I find that
I can usually come up with about 10-30sec clips, but
anything longer is very difficult. Where do you get
more loops for Audition, if you need them?Good luck… Will be waiting for any news. 🙂

Glad to hear others are getting the loops to work.
Can you describe your workflow a little? Did you get
more loops from someplace or just use the ones that
came with Audition? How long of a music clip were
you able to create?Any thoughts are greatly welcomed.
Thanks

I created a 3 minute piece using the samples on the Loopology CD supplied with Audition. It was my first attempt to create some usable background music with Audtion, having only dabbled with MIDI sequences and digital effects in Sound Forge previously. Although I found Audition to be less intuitive than Sound Forge, I managed to pull together some rhythm samples fairly quickly into a structure that sounded good enough to serve as a backing track for the images of a school artwork exhibition that I had just finished editing. Once I’d added and mixed some instrumental samples and spent a couple of hours editing and changing the pace and timing to match the visuals, the whole thing seemed to hang together – perhaps it was just beginners luck !
I don’t think you can prescribe any particular workflow for music composition, its all a bit too intuitive for that – you just pull together a few samples that sound good and see what happens. If it doesn’t work out, then give up and try again tomorrow !
I’ll definitely be using Audition with Loopology again – possibly to try to compose a piece and edit the video at the same time to get them to mesh perfectly – I like a challenge !Tony

Thanks for the comments on your experience. It seems that with
the power of Audition, more people would be using loops to create
soundtracks. I am not really a musician, but experiment and play
with loops, therefore, any time I find out about others experiences,
it helps. You wouldn’t want to share your soundtrack would you? Thanks again

No problem – just go here:
uk.briefcase.yahoo.com/tonyneal@btopenworld.com
Open the Music folder and you will find an mp3 and an Audition .ses file.
E-mail if you have problems accessing the files.
Cheers

I was able to download the ses file and load it into
audition. Wow, it is amazing what kinda of mood can be set
with just a few clips. I think you said this was for an art
project and I can really get the feel of a modern dance
routine. Really neat. You’ve inspired me to continue
learning and trying out things with Audition. Thanks again for sharing.
