    I don’t know if there’s an easy way to do this, but I need to take an image (a tree) and put it in a 3d comp many times throughout the landscape I’m building. They need to be in different positions (x,y, and z). Is there a way to do this with 1 layer, or do I have to put the same image in my comp multiple times and reposition them manually?

    You do need multiple layers, IMHO. You might try this expression on a 3D layer’s position:

    minX = -500;//Minimum x depth value
    maxX = 1000;//Maximum x depth value
    minZ = -500;//Minimum z depth value
    maxZ = 2000;//Maximum z depth value
    seedRandom(index, true);
    x = random(minX,maxX);
    z = random(minZ, maxZ);
    [Math.round( x), position[1], Math.round( z )]

    This gives them all the same Y value, you can move them manually since they are probably more critical. Worth a try.

    My mistake, put the expression on the tree layer and then Ctrl D until you have as many layers as you want.
