    Hi guys,

    Another dumb question (I’m sure!)

Let’s say I have two green screen videos, each on separate tracks. I’ve activated the Composite Level Envelopes on each so that I can affect fadeouts between each other. However, I want the background for video (a) to be different from that of video (b).

At the moment I’m using one master track beneath the two green screen videos, and I’m having to manually fade one background out and fade the other one in when I’ve faded out/in the two tracks above.

So my question is this; is there a way to link one green screen video to it’s own background, so that when the green screened background fades out, so does the background?

If someone can offer me a solution to this question I’d be most appreciative:-)!

    Cheers!!!

I would use nested projects for each green screen and it’s background. It’s just like nested comps in After Effects if you’re familiar with AE. The nested projects would act just like any other media.

You are very welcome. Most people don’t think about nested projects but they are a very handy tool for compositing. Glad I could help.

    Hey John,

Just to let you know that I tried using the nexted projects method you described and it worked a treat!

I wanted to let others know that, when using this technique, it’s really important that you limit your pan/cropping until you import the nested project into your main project.

Sony Vegas is funny, because the first time I used this method, I cropped the original to a 16:9 ratio. When I brought this nested project into my main project it showed correctly in the preview, but when I rendered it the nested project had shrunk to a mini 16:9 video within the main video! Going back to my original nested project, changing the pan/crop setting to ‘default’, bringing it back into my main project and pan/cropping it in there solved the ‘problem’!

Once again thanks to John for his advice – it’s definitely a technique that I will be using a lot!
