  • Multiclip Problem – Need some QUICK help please!

Little worried here… I edited a two camera multiclip project using my G5. Now, the client wants me to fly to her tomorrow to do a second pass. That means transferring the project onto my laptop and the media to a firewire800 drive.

After doing this, I had to re-link the files to the new hard drive. Now, the edited multiclips in my timeline no longer allow me to switch back and forth between camera angles. When I load a multiclip into the viewer, I only see the one clip that is being used for the multiclip (not the other camera).

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your multiclips may be collapsed. Try this:

    1) Select the multiclips you want to expand in the timeline.
    2) Choose Modify, Uncollapse Multiclip(s) from the menu.

You can search the FCP manual for “Collapsing and Expanding a Multiclip” for more info (or go to Vol II, pg. 281 in the FCP v6 manual).

Well, it’s probably too late now, but you may have discovered that multiclips don’t work.

If you reconnect media, or sometimes if you just close and open the project, the multiclip will lose synce, often wildly! You’ll notice that the multiclip has become longer, and that there may be black at beginning and end. If you’re in a 16:9 format, some camera may go 4:3.

I work for a TV network, and we’ve been complaining about it ever since we got FCP in January. The local Apple support team have finally conceded that it is indeed a problem with the FCP software, and reported it to Apple.

Whether Apple care, and will actually do anything is anybody’s guess. They are not know for being responsive to customers.

So don’t pull you’re hair out, you’re not going mad. Multiclip does not work. You can try grouping again, but you will have the same problem, and in effect, it renders your cut sequence unusable.
