Multiclip in FCP 6 and FCP 7
Hey All,
I’m having an issue with Multiclip in FCP 6.06 that I haven’t been able to find a solution to. Here’s my complete workflow:
All my footage is ProRes 422. The audio and video are separate for each clip, so I’ve created merged clips via inpoints for each shot. Sometimes the audio goes on past the end of the video, so from the merged clips I’ve created cleaned up subclips that begin right on the clapper mark and end right when the video cuts out. From these subclips, I’ve created my multiclips via inpoints.
Here’s the problem. When I copy the project files over to another drive (with the exact same media) and reconnect the media, all of the multiclips go severely out of sync. Now I’ve been reading forums for the past few hours and it seems like a ton of people have this exact same issue and there are no solutions out there.
So, while it would be great to figure out how I can salvage my project and get these clips connected and back in sync, if that’s not possible, I would like to know if anyway knows of a safe way to work with multiclips where this won’t happen. Perhaps bypassing the merged clips or subclips would help? I don’t know, but if anyone has had success moving projects in FCP 6 with multiclips, I’d love to hear your workflow.
Finally, does anyone know if this issue has been resolved or improved with FCP 7? While it’s not the best idea to upgrade in the middle of the project, I’m seriously considering it if it can get my projects working again. Has anyone tried out multiclip with FCP 7?
Thanks a lot for any input!
