multicam monitor crashes CS4 on proj open
I have discovered what I think to be a glitch in CS4 for the PC
(I know, I know….the list is long and distinguished)Here is the issue…..I want to see if anyone else has had this issue, and if there is at least a workaround.
When editing a 4-camera production in the CS4 multicam monitor, if PPro is closed, crashes, or in anyway exits without first closing that multicam monitor window…..projects will not re-open. I open into PPro and then where it normally loads all the media…..it freezes up, and sits there with the blue spinning wheel. I have left it set for over a half an hour…still nothing. I have went into the auto-save files….none of those will open, i have disconnected the drive that has the media on it, so that it will load and ask where is the asset……then when the project loads I was hoping it would allow me to close the multicam monitor, relink the footage, but still no response…..just spinning blue wheel. In the last 2 days I have tried literally everything.
Now for the strange part. I also have a Mac, and CS4 on the Mac doesnt seem to have this issue. At least not so far. In fact….I was able to copy just the locked up project file from the PC over to the Mac…..open it….close the multicam window….saving as a new project file, and then re-importing to the PC and it opens perfectly.
I was 12 hours into a multicam edit….and had to start completely from scratch yesterday….cuz the project would not open…and this one in particular (of course) was not readable by the Mac either….proj locked up on both machines.
Any input? Anyone have these same issues? Please advise…..cuz I am about to go back to CS3…where life was seemingly easier.

I had the same issue, PPro would not load the project because I had left the Multicam Window open. I noticed my hard drive light was still flashing, like it’s loading, but very slow. I tried defrag, CCleaner, which usually fixes many issues but nothing helped.
The only thing that worked was creating a new project, and loading the original.
I think this is definitely a bug from the Multi-Cam monitor being left open upon closing the project.

I have had the same issue multiple times, and I keep forgetting and leaving the multicam open…DOH><
Anyway, I fix this problem every time the same way…
1. starting the windows task manager (ctrl-alt-delete) and closing importerprocessserver
2.copy the name of the folder containing the media to my project, rename the folder (I usually rename to something like “1234”)
3. Open the project, when it prompts to relocate the media to the project, choose folder “1234” and/or you can paste in the original name of the folder at the same time
4. Rejoice at overcoming one of the many many many many really really really annoying bugs in Adobe CS4
