MultiCam Issue
So I just took a multicam tutorial in FCP and want to use my Sony EX1 and HVX200 to shoot a project.
I did…
Then i brought the footage into FCP and went to create a multi clip sequence, but it said the footage must be the same to do multicam.
I was shooting 720p modes for both cameras, but when I looked at the footage, one was 1280 x 720 and the other was 960 x 720… I didn’t know there were different flavors of 720p… Ouch!
How do I fix this…. How do I shoot with both cameras capturing the same frame size in the future?
I just need to understand what is going on here…

In order to edit your current multicam project you obviously need to convert the video of one camera to match the other. Compressor is the way to go for this task. You can do it two ways:
- Transcode the XDCAM EX footage to DVCProHD 720p to match the HVX200 footage.
- Transcode both cameras’ video to the Pro Res codec 1280×720 square pixels.
For future compatibility between formats you either transcode the footage after the fact in post or buy something like the new Ki Pro from AJA that will record to Pro Res while you shoot. But of course you would need 2 of them for your 2 cameras.

When shooting multicam you really want to use similar cameras for more than just the codec issue addressed above by Don. The Sony and the Panny will probably look different and there will be more time needed in post to smooth these difference out.
The new Ki from AJA looks real promising but it is not cheap, probably will have $7-8K in getting two of them and they are not very mobile for handheld, but they can be used that way. It would be cheaper to match your cameras.
