Multicam colour (sorry color!)
Hi all
I’ve got a multi cam piece to edit and for one of the cameras (handheld B roll stuff) I have decided to use a Pleasantville effect. Incidentally how much more user friendly is this kind of thing to do in X compared to 7? A doddle. I really think the Avid community over here hate FCPX because they are scared of it.
Anyway rather than apply it shot by shot in the multi can sequence I opened the multi cam clip and applied the effect to all of that camera. Perfect!
Except now I would like to take it our of a few of the shots at the beginning of the clip and I cannot dial the effect int eh multi cam sequence itself. It seems to be overridden by the fact I have applied the clip to the entire camera.
Puzzling … any thoughts?

Blade the angle and take the color off.

I’m not explaining very well because I don’t know what the view is called when you double click on the multi cam sequence. But it is in that viewing mode that I have made the colour correction.
So when back into multi cam edit mode I cannot un colour correct the shot in question but have no way of telling which shot I want to take the colour off when in the ‘view all’ mode having double clicked.
Does that make sense?

The angle editor?

Indeed. That’s the one “Angle editor” So I need to use t/c ref from the multi cam seqeunce and blade the clip in the angle editor to undo the colour correction.
Now I would say that would be simpler if I could select the clip in the multi cam clip and adjust it there or “turn off” the colour correct.

Yes. Since the color is added to the whole angle, you have to take it off of only the parts you need, and to do that you need to create those parts in the angle.

FCPX is so cool it has made me a bit lazy…the more it gives the more I want!!

Why not duplicate the angle, one with color effect, and one without. Then you can simply change angles in the sequence. No futzing about all the blading and match framing, etc.

lol. Actually, when “stepping into” a Multiclip or Compound Clip, having the playhead “stick” on the frame relative to where it was in the project is something I really hope shows up at some point…

In the angle editor, instead of slicing up the angle and removing the color effect, just duplicate the angle, and remove the color effect from the duplicate angle. Then you can go back to the sequence and “switch” between the angle with the color effect or not like it was a different camera angle.
