  • Multicam and Surround in 10.7

I am having an issue with the latest update that I’m hoping somebody can help me resolve. First, let me explain a little bit about my workflow.

I typically edit feature-length shows in multicam, with angles for each camera, one for the live-switched video, and one for my audio tracks which were recorded separately. I have always (since multicam has been in FCPX) created a compound clip with all of my audio tracks so I could mix them into a surround mix and used multicam to synch them up with my video feeds.

The problem that I am having now is that, while my surround information appears to be preserved when I go into the multicam clip, all of the surround mixing is lost on my main timeline. The multicam clip defaults to a 4 mono mode, and if I try switching it to the 5.1 setting it assigns my tracks incorrectly. FCP never used to do this before the 10.7 update. Does anybody know how I can get around this? I hope this was a bug and not an intentional change…it would seem like a major step backward if I have to resort to exporting a 5.1 premixed audio file before creating my multicam clip.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.
