  • Multi-window clip causes problems in editing and delivery

    Hi

I am having lots of problems with a multicam project. I have about 10 4k video tracks and want to create a multi-window 20 second teaser. The clips on each track have power windows with the display portion defined and alpha channel. While working in the edit timeline I keep losing the effect of alpha channels and sometimes lose my background image. I also have to copy the original 4k timeline into timelines with the customer required delivery formats of 1980 x 1020, 1980 x 1980 and 1020 x 1980. I also have titles which in rendering cause a fusion error message. I have no fusion clips (unless the resolve text titles are fusion clips).

Question do I have a memory problem? I have 40 MB but do I have to allocate memory to resolve in a special way? I am running OSX 12.1. on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017). Or is there another problem

    Thanks

    Peter

    If it were me…

I would not worry about working in 4k. (I never do) Work in HD, and (if needed) change your timeline to 4k at the end. It also sounds like multicam is not necessary if you are going to have quadrants in the final edit anyway.

I would also consider transcoding to hd for the edit, going back to camera original for color.

I would consider editing each track individually, and then comping them all together at the end.

I’ve done multilayer shows before, and for the most part each layer is it’s own entity…it just happens to be viewed with other items on the screen as well. Cut yourself 4 20 second teasers, and then put them into the quadrants.

I would just resize and crop my shots into the size position i want for the individual windows. Using windows and alpha channels is just more strain on an obviously over strained system.

    Hi Glenn

Many thanks for your advice. I am getting around the problem by reducing the number of 4k tracks (about 4-5 works) and do a multi-pass process just easing in as much at once without getting error messages. What puzzles me is the Fusion error when I try to combine text in the multi-track timeline. I now just render my multi window clip and add the titles afterwards.

    Many thanks

    Peter
