Multi element CC from one adjustment layer?
Using AE CS5 I’ve got an already complicated comp which needs some simple but separate colour correction applied to 7 separate elements in shot.
I have these elements defined with 7 separate masks so the obvious method which certainly works fine would be to create 7 adjustment layers with required CC effects applied and use the relevant mask as track matte for each. We thus get 14 extra layers in the comp!To keep the comp more compact is it possible to do the CC in one adjustment layer instead of 7?
I’m thinking to have the 7 masks present at the bottom of the comp (switched to shy – thus hidden) then in a single adjustment layer to have 7 Hue/saturation effects (or similar) and get each effect controlled by one of the 7 masks.
Is this possible?

You could apply the effects directly to the 7 layers of masked footage (dispensing with adjustment layers and track mattes altogether).
You could alternately use pt_EffectsSearch [link] to create master controls on a single null object for all the effects on the various adjustment layers, but this won’t work for some custom controls (such as the Channel Range on the built-in Hue/Saturation effect).

The seven elements that need varied colour correction are all in a single 3D render. The seven masks were rendered with it to help control each element separately.Graham Macfarlane

Ah, so they are not masks; they are mattes, right?
When I’m compositing 3D renders, I generally rename the layers meaningfully and shy the track matte layers.
I can’t think of a way to collect all your effects onto a single layer. Even if you could, I’d think that would get pretty confusing if you had to go back and make a change.
