  • Mpg Import to Vegas 8.0 – no video – only audio

Posted by Alan Kushnir on April 4, 2009 at 9:01 pm

I have an mpg clip that can be seen perfectly- video and audio – in WinMedia player and Nero Showtime. When I import it to Vegas 8, the audio track comes in but not the video. Can anyone give me a clue as to how to get the video in Vegas? It there, so why can’t vegas use it?
    thanks.

Drop it onto GSpot and tell us what it says the codec is.

The clip was actually an ‘mp4’ NOT ‘mpg’. It was created by nero.
    Sorry for the misinformation.
In any case I dropped it on Gspot, and the codec indicates ‘mp4v’.
I made sure again this clip plays in Win Media Player 11 and Nero Showtime but only the audio comes into Vegas 8.0
Is there anything else in the Gspot info you would like to know?
    thanks for any help.

As great as Vegas is, there are some codecs it doesn’t want to “play nice” with and this is obviously one of them.
You’ll need to convert that file to a format such as AVI that Vegas can read.
Make sure it’s not a Divx or Xvid AVI though as Vegas doesn’t play nice with them either.

Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed?

    Hi
I use the free MPEG Streamclip to import my H.264/MP4 clips into MOV’s and bring them into Vegas. My Vegas 8 Pro handles them really nice. Just make sure your project settings in Vegas reflect the aspect ratio of the video in case it’s 720p widescreen.
