MPEG4 – Can I use these files with Sony Vegas?
I am trying to find the best fit for video editing. I am looking seriously at purchasing Sony Vegas but first I have to figure out if my files will work w/ it OR if I need to purchase an additional conversion software.
I am shooting w/ a Samsung C10 Camcorder – the files are Mpeg4. I am so leary of downloading conversion software that may be loaded with a virus or whatnot.
Can anyone who has files in Mpeg4 form tell me how they deal with this issue?

You can download the Vegas Pro or Movie Studio 30-day trial and try the camera’s files yourself on your PC. That’s really the only way to be sure how well it will work.
H264 video requires a fairly well specified PC to edit smoothly. I don’t know about the C10, but I understand some MPEG4/H264 cameras produce slightly non-standard video that Vegas may have trouble with.

As Matt said, MPEG4 is a pretty wide spectrum of files and the only way to be sure is to download Vegas and see how it works on YOUR files (because not all mp4 files are created equal).
