First I would like to thank everybody here for all their help. Trying to get a grip on a new way of working is tough, knowing you guys and women are out there is a great relief.
    Here is my issue.
I am editing HDV footage from a HDR FX-1.
I am including animations. My animator is creating in Maya Mac, then tweeking in final Cut. I have requested Mpeg-2 files to match the HDR-FX1

The files he exported show no video in Vegas. In Quicktime on my Mac or MY PC they tell me I need a mpeg2 decoder which I bought and still I see no video and hear audio. For some reason they play on his mac. I have been able to play them on VLC on my mac. He has been able to render h.264 that works but if I can get the mpeg2 it would save both of us render time on a large project. I’ve attached screen shots of his codec in vlc, and vegas as well as a screen shot of my HDV footage properties.

The below is info on GOOD FOOTAGE THAT WORKS from my camera

    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Brad

I am just guessing at this but if he gave you is an APPLE HDV file.. That is proprietary to the mac and you cannot play an apple hdv file on a pc….

    Ken
Learn something new everyday. What I don’t get is why it won’t play in quicktime pro with mpeg2 plugin on my mac. Though I have seen issues posted on the web relating to Snow Leopard and mpeg2 with quicktime.
(but you know how info on the web can be)
I think he might be running an older version of final cut as well, I was thinking possibly it was using some odd early version of final cut with with an early HDV encoder that wasn’t quite right. I know he normally was using Final Cut with his SD Cannon.
    Thanks
    Brad

There are a couple of Final Cut codecs that do not work on the PC.
One is FINAL CUT HDV.. the other is APPLE INTERMEDIATE CODEC. You will find alot of people that are not cross platform aware handing these files off to be used on a PC… PRORES HQ would be my first choice for going from a mac to a pc.
