Mpeg2 720p @30 mbps Vs Cineform Avi 720p ? Which will be sharper in output ?
Posted by Viki Kumar on June 29, 2009 at 3:38 pmMpeg2 720p @30 mbps Vs Cineform Avi 720p.
Which of these 2 formats will yield a sharper output result or rather which is of higher quality.
I recently rendered to Cineform 720p and found them slightly softer in output compared to the source.
Is cineform known to soften the output just like wmv does too ?

I haven’t noticed this at all. I use CineForm all the time but I usually work at 1080i. The render to CineForm should be virtually indistinguishable from the original because it is higher quality. If you used the CineForm codec that comes with Vegas it’s very old (v2.5) compared to v5.1 that you get when you buy CineForm. This could have something to do with it.

June 30, 2009 at 4:34 pmHi John,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes im using the cineform codec that comes with Vegas 7.
But the Cineform 5.1 that you mention is a codec only which works like a plugin or is it a seperate program that does the conversion ?
If its the former buyng the new one will work with Vegas 7 or above ?
Thanks

June 30, 2009 at 6:18 pmThe CineForm 5.1 codec shows up under Vegas 7 just like all the other codecs. In fact, it replaces the existing CineForm codec in all the templates that use CineForm. Neo Scene does have a stand-alone application that will capture and convert your video but you don’t have to use it.
I would download the free trial and see if it gives you better results before you buy it. I believe the trial is active for 14-days.

Neoscene ? The rest are unaffordable for the common man anyway. 🙂Also within vegas cineform never allowed rendering to full size 1920×1080. Only squeezed 1440×1080. Will buying this codec and installing it remove that limitation and allow us to render to full size 1920×1080 ?
