    hello guys,

after having edited and delivered the footage as avi, i was asked by my client to convert the avi’s to mpeg-2’s, so they can use it to put on their dvd.
if i use the standard pal-dv settings that come with the main concept plug-in, will i be save? are there any pitfalls down the line of converting?
or is it wiser to step to a authoring professional, and let him or her decide how to convert the material?

    thank you for any input.
i’ll also ask at the authoring forum.

Simply going to File – Render AS – picking MPEG2 as the format and DVD PAL as the preset should work fine. You may need to click “Custom…” and do two things: 1) turn on “Two-Pass” and 2) change the “Average Bitrate” to be appropriate for the length of your video.

The only other question is audio. That setting will include audio in the MPEG file – compressed audio. They may prefer the audio as either a separate WAV or AC3 file.

    thank you, edward.

how should the length of the film influence the bitrate?

Big time! I recently had a post below……

    https://www.creativecow.net/forum/read_post.php?postid=111795008026616&forumid=24

…..Titled “getting a video to fit on DVD”. If you render at too high a bitrate, your video won’t fit onto a DVD.

There’s been many posts here about bitrates and video length. And there’s a lot of Bitrate calculators out there for free that you can use. After you read my post, do a forum search on MPEG-2 bitrates.
