Well, I finally bought my own copy of vegas pro now that I can actually use it. I originally bought platnium version 9, but when I tried the new version 10 or even vegas pro rendering was choppy.

Were talking 45 minutes for a 3 min video 720×480 WMV to 720×480 =NTSC DV Widescreen. This only happened on the new black interface.
This did not ever happen in version 9 with the old grey interface.
The render was always smooth and fast with version 9c.

Now that the history is out of the way…
I finally found a workaround for the broken WMV to =NTSC DV Widescreen with the black interface versions.

I get choppy rendering of unbelievably slow render times with =NTSC DV Widescreen, but I get absolutely smooth rendering with MPEG-2 NTSC DVD and NTSC YUV Code in AVI format. What gives???

My question is, which is the better format to render in MPEG-2 or AVI NTSC YUV.

That depends on what your target device is. What will you do with the rendered video? That will determine the best format to use.
