MPEG-2 is heavily intraframe compressed format designed for delivery of content on DVD or for broadcast transmission. It is not designed nor intended for production. You need to convert your material into a production format that uses interframe compression. The easiest for you with the software you’re using is to convert it to DV.

    All the best,

You cannot edit with MPEG-2 video in FCP. You must convert it first. Use MPEG Streamclip. It’s free.

MPEG-2 is a finishing format, you should never edit with this format.

Hi, am trying to edit ouput in fcp 6 from:
    hvx200 Quicktime format (.mov)
    and
    SDR-S10 MPEG-2 format (.MOD)

So far, have used ffmpegX to convert mpeg2 to QT and although it’s playable it’s definitely not sellable (audio out of sync, video pretty bad). Am assuming streamclip is about the same ffmpegX though I haven’t tried it yet. Am thinking about buying a converter called ‘Cinematize 2’ also assuming that because it’s a ‘pay’ product it may somehow do a better job at the conversion. On the other hand it’s possible I don’t know how to drive ffmpegX and by association streamclip.
    Appreciate any help.
