.mp4 not viewable on Mac’s but are on PC’s when streaming
Sorry if other people have already posted this, but when I use compressor to encode my streaming video it makes the files .mp4’s. The files play fine on any PC with updated Quicktime, but when they are accessed from any Mac via the internet, they don’t play. It comes up with a bunch of code written on the screen.
When I use quicktime conversion, they work fine. But then I’m limited by making only one file at a time.
Can anyone tell me if I should do something different?
Examples can be found @ http://www.barbershophiphop.com episode 24 under the previous episodes page. The hi speed files are .mov’s and the low speed are .mp4’s. Since then, I’ve only used quicktime conversion. -

I don’t know how to fix this problem, but i know what’s happening. It’s has to do with how safari handles the mp4s. If you download the file you will notice that the file has a txt suffix. If you delete that and change it to mp4, it’ll work just fine. I don’t know anything about web site coding so I’m not sure if there’s something that can be done there or if it’s a safari bug.

thank you. I do find it peculiar that Safari won’t play it and explorer will. I will try to fix it.

I always do the following: once the .mp4 is ready I open it in Quicktime player. Then I go “save as” and then “make movie self contained”. Your movie will save as a .mov and have the same size as the .mp4.
Use this .mov for streaming/ plug in in browser, it will play in any player. That’s my experience anyway, did it many times.Mantrafilm
