Hi Scott,
If I’m not wrong there is no way to work directly with the MP4 files.
This is possible in VEGAS, because is a SONY application. In PP you can’t do it neither.
I think the best solution for multi-platform, is to download the files as MFX. You can deal with the FMX in FC using Mfx4Mac.
No need to convert to Prores or any other codec. native EX footage works very well in FC.

If you kept the file structure intact, you could have used the Sony tool, or FCPs Log and Transfer. But without that, you can try CLIPWRAP (there is a demo).

OK…those are good examples. So not EVERY NLE, just the ones I work with then.

If you were ONLY working with Vegas, I can see that mentality. But you aren’t. You are needing to also use that footage in other NLEs, so you need to take that into consideration. Or see if Clipwrap works, and do things your way.
