MP4 files w/H.264 compression files from “flip mino HD” camera will play in FCP, but when I start edit the program keeps crashing. Does FCP support MP4 files? Do I need to convert? Is a conversion available?

Final Cut does not support MPEG-4 or H.264 for production. You can use Compressor to convert the media.

Where can I find this “compressor” that will do the conversion? Who makes it?

If you have FCP you have Final Cut Studio. Compressor is one of the applications that comes with FCP.

In Compressor. Reading, reading – what is the best file type (settings) for me to convert my MP4s to for FCP that will keep the files in HD?

Help us out a little here. What frame size are you shooting? What frame rate?

Have used Compressor to tried to convert to HDV 720p30, AIC, Apple ProRes. Each time: Have settings and destinantion set. Looks good in Preview window. Says: 1 job, 1 target / never submitted. Press sumbit, submit. Get message: Unable to submit to queue – please restart computer or verify your Compressor installation is correct. Have restarted several times. How does one “verify your compressor installation is correct? -reinstall? I’m afraid to ask, because I just bought four HD cameras that are giving me these MP4 video/audio files I want to edit, but is it possible that Compressor can convert to MP4, but not from MP4 to something FCP compatable?

Sounds like you need to reinstall Compressor from the installation disc. Did you do that?

Reinstalled Compressor, same error – Unable to submit to queue – please restart computer or verify your Compressor installation is correct.

Sounds like you have other significant issues with your system, perhaps in the OS or in hardware. You might try to do a forum search on the FCP forum for this issue. If this is a new installation you should contact Apple.
