  • Moving projects with FCP 5.1.4

We just ran into an issue here where I used Media Manager to move a project from my Mac Pro Quad 3.0 to our G5 Quad 2.5. The project will open on the G5, but then FCP freezes with the beach ball of death whenever I try to do anything.

I just installed FCP 5.1 on my Intel laptop just to see what would happen and the project opens just fine.

I used Media Manager because I was only moving small portions of two projects to a new one.

Just curious if anyone else out that has both an Intel and G5 machine with FCP 5.1.4 and if you’re able to move projects from one system to another.

Yes, we haven’t had any problems here. We have both Intels and G5s.

One option might be to export an XML of the timeline. That’s not a fix, but it might be a temp work around.

[Russell Lasson] “Yes, we haven’t had any problems here. We have both Intels and G5s.”

Are you simply moving a project and all media or using Media Manager?

We have a SAN with both Intels and PPCs connected. I’ve never had a problem opening projects from one system to the other. Even when I use media manager to copy clips and create a new project.

    Let me ask you this…

Do any of your computers use 10.4.9? My Mac Pro is using 10.4.9 and any new projects are just fine and most older projects are fine but our movie feature will not open at all under 10.4.9. But it will open fine when I boot to my backup drive that has 10.4.8. The only differences beween these computers are the OS versions.

    Just a thought.

BTW, when switching between our Mac Pro and G5, I have to delete the waveform files before opening projects. That was the only issue I was having until this one.
