I am trying to learn that technique for having clips move into the composition where there are multiple clips going at once, a la 24 and then moving back out zooming into one of the pics. I messed around with the masking effect and got the section, but did not get the sliding to be like I had hoped. For Clip A – I had split the layer between so one was masked and the other was not. Then created the mask with the second camera shot underneath. It appears and the first clip becomes masked, but I would like to get the rolling/sliding effect of one shot pushing the other clip – Clip B – to the left and vice versa. I did a cursory scan of the posts but did not know what this effect might be. If there are some other posts you know about that would be great. or if someone has some ideas I would like to hear them. I need to learn this for movie trailer editing that I am doing. My goal is to have the whole screen filled up (not necessarily like 24 where there is a black background and video, etc, but more 50/50 two videos on one screen then zoom into one or the other) I have a couple of books, but they deal more with the simplistic mats and moving pictures.

you guys are the experts so I look to hear what you got.

    thanks

Hmm … it sounds as if you want a mix of the following basic techniques:

    – masking a footage layer
    – transforming (scaling) a mask applied to a footage layer, or just animating the shape of a mask
    – scaling a footage layer
    – animating the scale of a footage layer
    – animating the position of a footage layer

So, check the manual (or the help) and get back to us. 🙂

Okay, I will check that out this weekend. What I thought was strange was trying to get the shot within the mask to essentially end up in 2D and 3D. I am guessing is what I am trying to do. I am assuming that is what you noted above.

I do like some of the settings though with the masking. it looks like a lot can be done.

Also, do most people run the video through AE then import back into the NLE program and synch back up the audio. I am quite the novice on AE Audio and have not used it that much….from what I read people mostly use it for synching up audio effects with Visual effects. Otherwise they import to the NLE system and match it up there….

    Just wondering.
