Moving Libraries and Media
Posted by Ron Fenley, on September 22, 2015 at 7:41 pmWhat is the easiest way to take all the media and the entire library from one external hard drive and copy and past all of it to another hard drive? Want to back up the entire thing and ship to client.

September 22, 2015 at 8:08 pmDepends entirely on how it’s been organized- i.e. is all of the original media contained within the Library or is some of it external. some tips:

Not withstanding all of the great information on Larry Jordon’s site pointed to by Noah… and this Media Management PDF from Apple…
The easiest way is to select the Library in FCP X, open the inspector to see the Library Properties window, and press the Consolidate button to copy any external media into the Library. Then close FCP X and use the Finder to copy the Library from one hard drive to the other.
Having said that, if you have lots of external media that might not fit into a managed library then you may need to take another approach.

Did you use Consolidate as I suggested in my post? This will ensue that all of the media is, in fact, inside the Library.
