Moving edits in Premiere
I have switched over to Premiere from Final Cut, and cannot for the life of me figure out this issue.
In Final Cut, when an edit is selected, if you push the ‘up’ or ‘down’ arrow key it will move the playhead up one edit or down one edit on the timeline, and it will also move the selection of the edit up or down one edit, so that the edit that is selected is the same the edit the playhead is on. In Premiere, if I have an edit selected (with the roll tool, for example) and I push the ‘up’ or ‘down’ key, it moves the playhead, but the originally highlighted edit stays highlighted. So what I’m asking is how do you move the selection up or down one edit, so that I can just use the arrow keys to adjust edits rather than having to keep clicking each edit as I go along. I have messed around with all of the shortcut keys and have searched endlessly online it seems. If anyone knows this, thanks so much in advance!

Move around your edit and press T. T will allow for a mini-trim window and will work on the edit point on or nearest the playhead. Give that functionality a try.

Pushing T only opens the trim window for the highlighted edit, wherever that edit is, not for the edit the playhead is on. I am looking for a way to advance the edit which is highlighted one edit forward or backward, much like you can advance the playhead one edit forward or backward using the arrow keys. I hope that clarifies.

Once T is pressed then navigate with up/down within it. it’s a bit of a context change but shouldn’t be terrible.

The solution ended up being that my track was not selected. I had read about this somewhere but thought it was selected already. I was just clicking around and discovered that if you click on the track it highlights grey, and voila! it all works like I wanted. I knew it was something simple and dumb like this.
