Moving an object along a growing line
Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if you can help me simplify my project.
I’ve built an animation that has a blinking dot traveling from location to location on a map. As the dot travels, a path appears showing where the dot has been.
Right now I have the line animating separate from the dot, but each the customer asks to retime things it is very time consuming since I have to retime the line separate from the dot. I’m wondering if there is a way I can control the growing line along with the dot so I’m only adjusting one set of keyframes when I need to make edits.

If you’re using the latest version of After Effects, you can make use of the new pointOnPath() expression to link the position of one layer to a path on another.
Here’s an example for your case that you could modify:
