Say I have an object (any object) and I want to move a camera around it, on an invisible ring if you will (with the point of interest being that object), what’s the easiest way to accomplish this?

Most folks create a new Null, make it 3D, then parent the camera to the null, then rotate the null. This gives you a perfect circle.

If the “LayerToBeCircled” is at 0,0,0 your camera will be looking there. If not, link the Camera’s POI to the layer’s position.

P reveals the layer’s position. “A” reveals the Camera Point of Interest. Alt Click the Camera’s POI, then pickwhip (drag the @ that appears) to the “LayerToBeCircled”‘s Position, giving you an expression on the Cameras POI:

    thisComp.layer(“LayerToBeCircled”).position

You should be good to go.

Note: This will look like the layer is merely rotating unless there are other objects around. If you add another view and set it to Custom View 1, you can see that the camera is revolving around the object.
