Not sure if this is the proper forum for this question, my apologies if it is not.
Issue: I transferred .MOV footage, shot with a JVC GY-HM100U, from a GTech external device to a Dell Windows server. Prior to deleting the original files on the GTech I tested some of the transferred footage, Quicktime (most recent ver.) will not open them. Some footage will play the audio but no picture, some displays an error message stating that “It is not a file that QT understands”, Error 2048. I’ve tried playing it from a Mac Pro tower and a Windows laptop, no joy. My feeling is it has to do with either the wrapper or the codec (MPEG-2). This is raw footage straight from the camera, has not been stepped on or re-formatted.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

Probably the com.apple.FinderInfo extended attribute is dorked. You can use xattr to look at a good one and strip off the bad and replace.

Thanks Steve. That’s a bit beyond my current Mac capabilities, but it gives me a point of reference. I’ll study up on how to use xattr (without blowing something up) and test it out.
    Thanks again.
