    Hello!

I am desperate, just got a new job where they capture everything from the camera (HD 720p) into iMovie, live.

The QTs I receive from them (to import to MC5) will not open in Quicktime Player, and import at the slowest speed possible. When imported, however, no video is present, just the audio.

My boss says he can open them in Quicktime Player just fine. Is this an AVID codec issue I’m having? Does iMovie create .mov files that cannot be used in AVID or elsewhere when it’s captured into it??

Really need help, can’t lose this job. THANK YOU!!

If you can’t play these files back in QT player on your system, then you are missing the right Quicktime codec that the files were stored in. Hit Cmd-I in QT player and find out what codec it is, then get that codec installed on your system.

Okay, so it’s a 960×540 Apple Intermediate Codec, Linear PCM

There seems to be lots of problems out there with this codec, haven’t seen any specific to this though.

Does that mean the footage is in fact AVCHD?

I also googled that codec and didn’t see the ability to download it. I did yesterday download and install the AVID Quicktime Codec 1.2.2 PE I believe it was called. Nothing changed.

Is transcoding or converting it to something other than that codec something that would take a long time for HD clips of this size??

They are 15-30 min clips each, just interviews.

    THANK YOU!!

iMovie only supports the MOV movie file whose video codec is DV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, or AIC. If a .mov video contains an incompatible video codec, the file will either not import into iMovie or will exhibit playback issues after import. In this case, you may need to convert the video file to iMovie compatible video format.

Just google search Step by Step Guide on How to Successfully Import MOV into iMovie

You will find a simple solution
