Ive heard that people have been having problems when dropping .mov on the timeline and working on it. I have an i7 920 processor with 12gb of DDR3 with a HD 5750 video card. I dropped a 15 minute video into the timeline and got allot of lag when dropping transitions and so forth on it. I need to render out as .mov also . So my questions are:
What program or what do I need to do to get sony Vegas Pro 9 working normal?
Since this 90 minute video will be used on HBO this will be sent to someone else after I edit and it will go through the “delivery ” steps for HBO. WHat render is best for me to output for the crispest and clearest for television?
    Thank you in advance.

What codec does the mov file use?

You could use CineForm Neo Scene to render the mov file to a near-lossless digital intermediary (much like Final Cut does with Apple’s ProRes 422) and edit the CineForm files which are much easier to handle. You could also use VASST GearShift to render the mov files to a DV proxy and edit with the proxies, then swap back the mov file for final render.

That depends on what render formats the other editor can ingest. Is this SD or HD? If it’s SD use DV/DVCPRO or one of the Avid DV codecs for Quicktime. If it’s HD you need to understand what HD codec the other editor can ingest. There are no good mov formats for HD in Quicktime. You may have to render uncompressed although Motion JPEG should hold up nicely.

Thank you for this answer. I will definitely buy cineform.
I seen it on the website for $129 but video guys has it for $99. Do you think this is up to date? The latest one?

Also this will be HD. The files are straight from the 5D mark II camera straight to a Mac then I downloaded to a pc. I’m also planning on buying the Vegas studio 10 just till Vegas pro 10 comes out.
Now does the new Vegas studio HD 10 have “add” “multiply” on timeline so I can bring in an aftereffect clip to. Show through my regular clip?

Not only is it up to date but if you use the coupon COW5OFF you will get an additional 5% for being a Creative COW member. I highly recommend buying from Videoguys.

Yes, Movie Studio HD supports the Multiply (Mask) compositing mode but that’s the only one. The rest are only found in Vegas Pro.

No. The two compositing modes in Movie Studio HD 10 are Source Alpha and Multiply (Mask). That’s it.
