  • .mov file rendering huge (11.3 GB) – why is this happening?

I have a friend who uses FCP offer to help me out with sound and color correction, and he asked me to send him an uncompressed .mov file. When I rendered it, it ended up way too huge to send anywhere – 11.3 GB.

According to my friend, he said that it should be rendered as NTSC DV at 29.97 fps and shouldn’t be more than 2 GB. Those were my settings, as well as the 44,100 Hz/16 Bit Stereo for the audio at the “Good” quality.

Is there something I’m overlooking, or are these files always going to be huge?

I though you said that you rendered it uncompressed? That is not the same as DV. DV is 13GB/hr. Do the math based on the length of the clip to figure out how big it should be. If your fried says it should be 2GB then I’m guessing that the clip is about 9 minutes long. Make sure you render it as NTSC DV and not uncompressed.

What I actually ended up doing was changing one of the video settings (while getting ready to “render as”) to the NTSC DV setting when it previously said “None.” I thought since that was mentioned in the Default setting it didn’t have to be set from the drop-down menu. It saved as a bit more than 1 GB.

Figuring out Vegas one little, tiny bit at a time…

But this forum is a huge help. I’m so glad it’s here. I’m very, very green when it comes to editing.
