In premiere, if you use the mouse wheel it acts as a zoom function.

Is there a way to make it scroll the timeline as final cut 7 does?

This is one nitpick I’ve wanted.

What does it exactly do in FCP?

If I use the mouse wheel in the timeline it scrolls horizontal.
If I hold Ctrl it scrolls vertically.
If I hold Alt it zooms in or out.

in final cut pro, if you move the mouse cursor down in the area
at the bottom (where the zoom tool is) it scrolls forward or
    back in time.

in premiere it only zooms in and out.

I just found that if I hold alt/option down it works, but
I’d prefer it to without having to do that.

If you position the mouse cursor on the zoom scroll bar at the bottom of the timeline, and scroll the mouse you can zoom in/out (without holding alt).

When the cursor lies above the timeline panel, scrolling the mouse wheel will move the timeline back and forth (CS6).

[Ivan Myles] “When the cursor lies above the timeline panel, scrolling the mouse wheel will move the timeline back and forth (CS6).”

you mean put mouse over program window (right monitor in cs6) then move mouse wheel?

that only scrubs the cursor, doesn’t move down the timeline like holding down alt/option + mouse wheel.

I guess I’ll just hold down alt/option as that does what I want and didn’t know it did that til today.

Wish there was a way to disable the “mac thing” other than using a pc 😉

The scroll wheel moves the visible area in the timeline window (PC). Are you asking for the scroll wheel to move the playhead forward and back (like the jog disk in previous releases)? The left and right arrow keys on the keyboard serve this function.

    no.

it seems it’s different on a pc than the mac.

I have to hold down option.

It’s cool, I’ll just do it that way.
