Mountain Lion Compatible?
Posted by John Dikmen on November 26, 2012 at 6:30 amI just installed Mountain Lion on my MacPro 3.1 Desktop and Particle Illusion 3 Standalone launches, but the intro splash screen just hangs there.
Is this not 10.8 Compatible? The icon does not have the “warning” symbol over it as do most incompatible apps.

November 28, 2012 at 12:16 amWell… I downloaded the latest version, did an uninstall of my previous installation, reinstalled and it would not accept my Serial Number?
Tried again, same thing.
Then reinstalled and launched into Demo Mode – still get nothing but a hung Splash Screen?
All my other Apps appear to be working in ML. Any other ideas?
I originally purchased v3.0 from Digital Juice 2/19/08. Worked fine until migrating to Mountain Lion last week?
Copy of original email from DJ with SN “X’ed” out for this post…
The following is your particleIllusion 3.0 serial number:
XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-PQMA
Record this serial number in a safe place.
This serial number is not needed to activate the software, but
is registered in your name (and may be used for activation in
future releases). -

November 28, 2012 at 1:48 pmThe latest version requires a new serial number. Please contact support at genarts dot com.
It will fix the “freeze at splash screen” problem, as that’s related to the old-style licensing.

November 28, 2012 at 11:16 pmAlan,
Thanks… Amy at GenArts quickly responded with a new SN. I did an uninstall/reinstall and entered the new SN. It accepted it, but still just get the Splash Screen freeze. We will see?

November 28, 2012 at 11:28 pmI don’t know if this works any more in the newer versions of OS X, but if you hold down the ALT key when you launch pI3 it will disable the “check for updates” check that it may be doing at startup. See if that helps.
If not, make sure you’re running 3.0.10 — sometimes people end up with multiple versions installed and use the wrong one.
You can also try deleting the preferences file. It’s in /Library/Preferences and is called “pIllusion3.prefs”. If you can’t see your “Library” folder, use Finder’s “Go” menu and hold down alt/option and “Library” should display.

November 28, 2012 at 11:38 pmAlan,
Alt did nothing.
I was running the latest version of PI
Trashing the Prefs from the Library apparently did the trick! Started right up.
Thanks for your assistance!
