    Hi all,

yesterday I was at the screening of Guy Maddin’s great new film The Forbidden Room. In the Q & A following the movie Maddin and co said that to get the effect of film ‘jump’ they actually motion tracked their digital footage to the sprockets of an old Josef von Sternberg picture.

I would be very interested in trying this out to see some results as I have heard of overlaying film grain or film burns to emulate film footage but never this method. Does anyone have any idea how I might go about doing this using Adobe Premiere Pro CC?

You would need an old Josef von Sternberg picture to track.

I wouldn’t want to track it to von Sternberg picture per say, just an old film to try to emulate film jump.

You could try doing this in AE using expressions like wiggle.

You should be able to mimic that with a position effect. Do you mean weave, jitter?

Check out my free old film damage template I made for AE.
    https://f1.creativecow.net/7710/old-film

    vertical jitter
    vertical scratches
    vignette
    blotches
    dirt specks
    dirty edges
    dust
    exposure
    flicker
    hair
    heavy scratches
    light leaks
    orange tint
    time
    trapped hair

That’s great Christ I will try some of these.

Yes what I mean is the judder that you get from film as compared to the relative static nature of digital footage.
