I have a graphic that I have put in a video (a teeter totter) that I have added motion to. I now need to place some video silhouettes on to the ends of it. I wanted to motion track the silhouettes to the animation thad I did. How can I motion track to a graphic?

If you created the graphic in AE then all you need to do is to Parent the silhouette to the graphic. Of course they would both have to be in the same composition.

Thanks for the response. The only problem with that is that I need to motion track to one end of the graphic, not to the whole thing. Think of the ends of a teeter totter going up and down.

It makes to difference what the parent layer is doing. Once your child layer is positioned where you want it to be, relative to the parent, that’s when you initiate the parenting relationship.

If this still doesn’t help you then it’s best that you post more visual info.

Parenting will do the trick. You just have to be a little bit careful in placing the Anchor Point of silhouettes videos.

I have created an example for you:

Position your silhouettes video at the correct position when the teetertotter is horizontal. Movethe anchor point of silhouettes video at the center of levers(Using Pan Behind Tool, Press Cntrl/Cmnd + Y). Now Parent it to the lever and it will inherit the rotation to match the motion.
