I am attempting to motion track an object that exits the frame of the video. Here are the steps that i took so far:

    1) Created a Pre-comp with wider pixels (400 on each side, centered)
    2) Checked the ‘extrapolate’ check box, with confidence level of 80%

After applying the settings and analyzing the footage, the tracker persistently does not want to continue moving off screen, and stop at the edge of the frame, even with the wide precomp layer.

I’ve been trying to figure this out for 3 hours, and still can’t. If you have a helpful suggestion on anything that i may have overlooked, please contribute!!!

If the point you are tracking moves out of frame there is nothing for AE to track or even guess at. What you want to do is at the point in time in which your track point leaves the frame, you want to stop the tracker and set a new tracking point. There are a number of detailed explanations of how to do this. One place is in the AE help and I’m sure there are some tutorials here on the subject.
