  • Motion tracker – target layer won’t lineup

I am hoping there is a simple solution to this.

I have tracked 2 points on a TV screen that was filmed hand-held. the Tracker was set to Track motion. The resulting tracks are good and accurate.

When I apply the tracks to the layer I want to matte in, the target layer always rotates, rescales and repositions. If I select all the keyframes and nudge the rotation, scale and position parameters I can get the target layer back in alignment.

But this is a pain, so I need to know why the slide is repositioned in the first place. Is there something I can do in the positioning of the slide before applying the motion track to this layer.

Any advice or directions to advice is appreciated.

Did you just choose Position when you told After Effects what kinds of keyframes to generate during tracking? See “Track or stabilize motion”.

Hi Todd. I have chosen either Position+Rotation or Position+Rotation+Scale.
