motion tab parameters
Like many, I am a self-taught FCP editor, so a lot of edit techniques seem to slip through the cracks, which is why a forum like this is so valuable. Anyway, I am doing a bunch of promos with a simple animation I built, sliding and rotating a graphic file at the top of the spot. Each one needs a different file with the same move. I used the motion tab to adjust and set keyframes for the scale and movement. How can I easily apply that same movement to new clips (without having to copy numbers, etc.)

Just click in the clip that got the animation and Copy (Com-C). Them Control-click in the clip (Or click-Option-V) where you want to paste the animation and when the menu opens choose: Paste Atributes. Then choose the atributes you want to transfer from the first to the second clip. In your case “Basic Motion”. That’s all.

You can save the Animation as a Favorite so it will show-up in all your FC projects (Unless you trash the prefferences). Click the clip with the Animation and in the EFFECTS menu you got the option.

There is a check box on the top left side that says Scale Attributes or something similar.
If that is unchecked your 1 sec move will be 1 sec no matter how long the clip is.
If it is checked it will do just what is says and scale the time it takes to do the move appropiately with the length of the clip.
EX; a 1 sec move on a 10 sec clip will be 2 sec on a 20sec clip and so on.

This is a great thing to do in Motion. You would apply any moves and filters to a layer, and simply swap out the footage in that layer.
