    Hello,

I have a client who has extremely shaky footage of an interviewee standing in a corner. Both walls are blank white and there is nothing else in the shot besides the subject herself. The client and I both agree that the footage is awful, but it cannot be reshot and the client feels he has to use it. I don’t have time to manually keyframe the shot, as they’re looking for a finished product tomorrow, so I’ve taken the approach of placing one anchor point on the subject’s head and mapping the keyframes to the y-axis only, then attaching a second anchor point to the subject’s shoulder or shirt and mapping those keyframes to the x-axis only. The resulting footage is better than the original, but certainly not professional-looking. The subject, unfortunately, shifts her weight and moves her head throughout the shot, so even she doesn’t provide a true anchor point. Does anyone have any other suggestions for how to stabilize this kind of footage in the timeframe required by the client?

    Thanks much.

Without seeing the shot I can’t only say to try automatic stabilization software (mercalli). Since you’ve tested the manual solution.

What software version do you have? Have you tried using Warp Stabilizer from premiere cs5.5 or later or after effects CS6?

As Jordan suggested, the Warp Stabilizer would be the best tool for the job—though he got the version numbers reversed. The Warp Stabilizer is available in After Effects CS5.5 and later and in Premiere Pro CS6.

Ah! Thanks for sorting me out on that.

And I heard through the grapevine that Kylene got it sorted out. She didn’t have 5.5, but *cough* Final Cut and used its equivalent.

Yes, I admit it. I’m a recovering FCP user who still slides back into old habits once in a while 🙂 But many thanks to everyone for the help. My client thanks you too — both for improving his project and allowing him to keep the illusion that editors are also magicians.
