Hi, I’m using AE 7 Pro and Illustrator CS2.

I’ve been having trouble assigning motion paths to keyframes. I’ve tried creating a shape in Illustrator and then copy/pasting that path to keyframes in AE, and that works, but only if I turn the stroke/fill off. Is that normal? And yes, I did change the preference.

Then, in AE, if I create a mask, select it, copy it, and try to paste it to position keyframes, it just copies and pastes the mask itself. I can’t get it to affect the position property. I’ve looked in AE’s help files, as well as watched the podcast tutorial on creating and pasting paths, but for some reason those methods aren’t working. Can anyone help me?

You have to make sure that you select the Mask Shape property specifically, and copy and paste that into the Position property. Otherwise AE thinks you want to copy the whole mask and all of it’s properties, not just the X/Y coordinate data.
