    Hi there
I’m using FCS2, (haven’t wasted cash on FCS3) and am waiting to see if Apple get it together on FCPX… but having seen Motion 5 in operation decided it was worth a look. However when I “send” a sequence to Motion I get the error “This project was from an earlier version and must be updated”, with an option of “open as original” or “open as untitled” – both have the same result. Once in Motion the placeholders for the media are in the correct places on the timeline but are empty. The clips are named, but are all black. The media does not have the classic “offline” appearence, and there’s no easy way to relink. I can “replace media file” but it will relink to anything, and needs to be done one clip at a time…
There must be a way of saying “hey I’ve changed versions, send the media over here!”

    Any thoughts?

You can’t send clips from FCP 7 to Motion 5, and you can’t import Motion 5 projects in FCP 7.

Golly that’s a bit rubbish it’s it Mark!!!
Please I tried it out on one machine before impulse buying for the other 14! LOL

Any work arounds that you know of? I’m just installing Popcorn Island so I can ship from FCP to AE…

No workarounds – but why do you want to use Motion 5 with FCP 7? What do you feel it can do for you that Motion 4 can’t?

    I’ve got FCS2 so I’m still on Motion 3….
We’ve got 15 edit suites so tend not to upgrade until we need to, and the difference between FCS2 & 3 didn’t seem worth it as many suites were still running G5’s. I was holding out for FCS4… but instead we got FCPX… which has nice features, but useless in our broadcast enviroment.
So thought I’d checkout Motion 5… Oh well!

Motion 5’s primary value (IMHO of course) – in addition to being a 64-bit app and working in float space all the time and having a great keyer – is its deep integration with FCP X.

Yes, that will be really useful when they’ve fixed FCPX!
In the meantime looks like its off to AE…. 😉
