Motion Graphics & Compositing Programs
Hi,
I am currently a video editor by profession, but I also use After Effects and Motion a lot in my spare time on my own projects and experiments. However I a soon to be moving and I’m looking to change my line of work too.I’d like to know people opinions on the motion graphics and compositing programs available, and what the training is like for certain programs, along with the kind of work people would expect to get and what the pay is like too. I’m currently thinking of trying to take a Shake course, how does this compare to other programs such as the ones made by Discreet (Autodesk)? I would be very greatful for any thoughts and opinions on this topic.

I haven’t experience with aught but AE. But I can tell you that the Total Training DVDs are SO worth it, they’ll make you a genius. Pay scale will depend on where you live. England is much different from the US in my experience. And where you live in the particular country of your residence makes a huge difference too.
Since AE comes with keylight it’s a much better compositor. It’s also one of the best motion graphics tools there are. You just need to get a 3d app like C4D to round out your arsenal.
I’m sure there are others who will have more informed views than mine, particularly as regards Shake, etc. Let them come!
