Motion exporting background on .png file?
I’m new to motion, setting up a basic 2D left-right move across the screen (move behavior). All looks good, but when I export to a quicktime file (to import into FCP), it comes in with a black background. File is a .png file, I have the transparent checkerboard on the canvas.
The eventual look is to have this image superimposed over other video images.
Did I miss something in preferences or the setup?

Noah is right, you need an alpha channel. You may need to export animation codec. It sounds like your Quicktime export is flattening your Motion project (excluding any alpha channel you may have had). If you initially roundtrip from Final Cut, you’ll bypass the need to do any exporting out of Motion, you’ll retain your alpha channel. So either roundtrip (to integrate your .motn file in your FCP project) or export animation… what version of Motion are you using by the way?

A png will do a Alpha Channel. Make sure it is set to Millions Color + which is under the Advanced tab in the Export Option section. That works for stills. If you doing a video set it to Animation at Millions Colors +. Best of luck.

Just to add to this subject. I agree with everything that is said on this topic. Also new 4444 codec from Apple Motion can export a alpha channel using the millions + (for animation). Please also note targa is good to export with alpha from 3d programs, also a common for images would be tiff or tif as it is another file type that can export Alpha.
if you are working with Photoshop then use Psd or Png.
