Motion crashes whenever an audio track is added to the project… Sometimes the crash is instantaneous, sometimes it’s delayed; but it always eventually crashes.

What’s going on?

You only need to post the crash thread number, in this case, 0. Not that it helps here.

Try trashing your prefs:

1) Quit Motion.
2) Navigate to User/Library/Preferences.
3) Locate com.apple.motion.plist and delete it.

If that doesn’t work tell us what kind of audio (format) and how you are adding it, and what version of motion and your machine specs (hardware and OS)

Deleted Motion prefs and converted audio to .mov and it’s still crashing…

next try a zap pram- google for that and you’ll see how. And then a reinstall of Final Cut Studio and install all current Software Updates.

Using Motion 4.0.3 on a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard.

I’ve experienced the mystery “touch audio, crash Motion” phenomenon, also. It can happen when simply adding audio to the timeline (I work mainly with .AIF format), but it can also happen when I move, change, or delete the audio.

I just copied an existing Motion sequence so I could re-use it elsewhere – when I tried to select and delete the old audio, bam – crash. I tried it maybe 3 times just now.

Only occasionally have I been successful at keeping Motion running while tweaking audio. The best way for me to get audio into Motion is to start by sending a chunk of a FCP timeline to Motion. And then, I don’t fool with the audio AT ALL, I just use it for shot timing purposes.

This problem seems to be somewhat recent, maybe since 4.0??, because I’ve used Motion since 2.0 and was very accustomed to using the audio features when this problem began to occur. Occasionally, prefs were duly trashed, but this didn’t solve the problem.

A bug, perhaps?

I am having he same issues. I’ve done all of the above. I know I don’t have to tell you, but what is critical about music working in Motion is the fine tuning. Jumping between Motion and FC all the time is unrealistic and rendering and re-rendering in FC is too time consuming. Could this be something with the Graphics Card?

I’ve also the exact problem, completely reproducible.
Sometimes a system restart helps, but not for long… tried everything else, no cure.
I hope Apple fix this at least in Motion 5 coming end of July

I have a late 2008 Mac Book Pro, the last model with the silver keypad, and had no trouble with audio in motion. Adding, deleting, moving tracks around. However I recently had to send my machine to Apple for a display problem and when it returned this problem has surfaced. They did replace the processor so I assume that’s the issue. I thought I was going insane because I had never experienced this. Does anyone know if a fix is out there?
