  Motion Clips Dependent on Master Clips? Motion Clip Plays in Source but Offline in Timeline

  I did a video mixdown on a sequence and applied a motion effect to the video mixdown, a motion effect clip was created. I then deleted the video mixdown clip and the associated media file. Now my motion effect clip will play in my source monitor but when I try and bring it down to my timeline it says it’s offline.
  I was under the impression that when creating a motion effect it created a new media file independent of the clip it came from. This was further exemplified when as a test I went to delete one of the motion effect clips and it asked me if I wanted to delete the media file. I did and it went off line in my source monitor.
  Luckily I still have my master clips and the sequence so all I have to do is the video mixdown and motion effect again but I am confused as to why this is happening.
  Anybody that could shed some light on this would be much appreciated.
  I am running MC 7.
