  • Motion Blur on only specified part of model – possible?

Posted by Brian Murphy on October 21, 2013 at 8:15 pm

    Hey all,

I have a bird and only with to apply motion blur to the wings, not the body of the bird. Only way I figure I can pull this off is to render in two separate passes – one render with and one render without motion blur, then render out mattes of the wings and composite the two together.

Anyway to do this “in-camera”? Can I specify a selection tag or use a vertex map to set how strong/weak the motion blur could be?

    Thanks,
    Brian

I don’t think it’s possible to have different motion blur settings for the same object. Only way I can think of would be to bake the animation to keyframes, split off the wings, and use motion blur tags to limit the moblur to the wings.

Thanks Adam – just wanted to make sure.

Your idea is exactly what I ended up doing…worked just fine.

    Cheers!
