What is everyone doing for motion blur in Premiere Pro CS6? I’m new to the program and can’t seem to find a motion blur setting anywhere. Do you keyframe a Directional or Gaussian Blur? Send to AE?

Anyone using Reelsmart Motion Blur from Re:vision?

I just have a lower third PSD file I’d like a nice blur on when it flies in. I’d hate to have to send every lower third to AE for something as simple as a motion blur. Hopefully I’m missing something basic.

    Thanks,

Turn on the master motion blur toggle and the layer specific motion blur toggle. Check out the manual.

The manual says nothing about Motion Blur. Are you talking about Premiere Pro or After Effects? I know how to use motion blur in AE. I’m trying to find it in Premiere Pro without having to send my project over to AE.

    Don –

I’m under the impression that there’s no such thing in Premiere Pro, short of using a plugin like ReelSmart Motion Blur:

Sure, you could fake it, and that’s been discussed in the past, by using a Gaussian Blur and then animating the parameters, but that’s time consuming, and doesn’t really look like motion blur.

Don, did anyone every answer this well? I am myself looking for motion blur. I’ve got a picture that is moving across my screen and I’d like to add motion blur. Sure, I know how to do this in AE. But what about Premiere? Seems to me that in FCP there was a check box in the motion tab of the clip.

You’re looking for “Frame Blend” under the Clip>Video Options menu.

Frame blending would just tell Premier to create new frames when the timing/speed is changed on a clip instead of duplicating existing frames.

This would not create motion blur on an animated layer in Premier. With how great Premier has become it would be nice to bring motion blur over from After Effects instead of having to link comps to it.

If anyone has a solution let me know.

    Quick workaround:
I was working on a project whose budget literally did not allow for me to use AE.
So my solution was rather simple.

    1. In the effects set keyframes for initial movement.
    2. Add a directional blur to that layer/sequence.

For my sample I did it to a PSD of a title card. It animated downwards along the y axis.
I set the motion blur to increase as the layer/sequence went out of frame. Achieving the same look as a regular motion blur.

    3. In My case: I set the initial keyframe for blur amount to zero then as it translated along the (y) I increased the blur level.
    4. Last step, make sure the direction is in the opposite way of the motion.

Voila, there you go. Simple fix, at least it worked for me. I hope it works for you too.
Good Luck. If you have any other suggestions or questions feel free to ask.

    Thanks,
    Matt N.

I know this is an old thread.
But for anyone looking for answers, one way to create motion blur is by:

-using the transform effect to create you movement
-untick the “Use composition shutter angle”
-set the shutter angle underneath to 180.

    Should work like a dream!

Thanks Ethan for updating the thread. Always nice to add closure to old threads when possible.

Is there nothing for when you want motion blur in a clip? Like this guy :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGgEIjk8MkU
I saw that “ghosting” was removed.
