does anyone who was at NAB know how illustrator files are now dealt with in Motion. it would be good if they come in resolution independent vector files.

also is the vector paint similar to something like combustion or commotion i.e. can it be used for rotoscoping easily?

I imagine if they say the tracker can be applied to any parameter means the vector tools are significantly better for creating masks.

Also wondering if there is any nodal compositing in Motion 3 like shake or conduit

I know there is some illustrator vector import plugin would just be good to see a good import into motion

all sounds very interesting stuff in the forum about all the new software updates, sounds like it will take a while to figure out the new tools

From what I’ve seen, this is the first step Motion has taken to step up and actually challenge AE. I don’t even use AE, but all the pros here have instilled in me a huge respect of AE’s capabilities, and everything I’ve heard so far about Motion sounds like it’s expanding to do the things that AE could do and Motion used to not be able to. In particular the tracking and true 3D capabilities. This means a lot to someone like me who has limited funds, and time to learn complicated new software. So something like Motion 3 will be the gateway to more creative projects! Way to go Apple!

BTW, Sorry to post this on your thread. You’re the only one to actually mention the new Motion 3 and thought this would be an OK place to post.

Ampede’s LayerLink is the product you need if you want full support of Illustrator files in Motion.

I spent a half hour talking to some of the Motion guys in the booth about this.
There seems to be some of the tools, but no raster paint and no cloning. You could do simple roto masks, for example, but they flat-out said that the tools for wire-removal, dirt fixes, and that sort of thing aren’t part of Motion.
The tool referred to as ‘Vector Paint’ seems to be mostly a write-on or particle distribution tool (write your name in pixie dust, etc.). Very cool effects, but if photo-realistic fixes are what you need, AE (or Silhouette) would be the way to go.
Maybe a third party would like to build a plug? Should be doable, and the tracker in Motion is from Shake and is first rate.
