  • More volume on final audio output in Vegas pro 8

    Hej guys.
As mentioned before, I’m working on a movie in HD. After rendering the file (seperate Video and Audio) and burnig at DVD Architect, I play the DVD on my DVD player and the sound is good and equal trough out the whole movie but..

    Problem:

The Audio seems to be very low (dB) compare to my other regular DVD movies that I buy in stores.

    What have I tried:

In my vegas project, some audio trackes are already at there highest level and also I have turned up the volume, to the maximum on the master output (the one that already is at your work-screen)

    My questions:

1- Any help how to “gain” my final output level? There must be another “master output mixer” button just to cranck up the audio a bit
2- Regurd Audio level adjusting, is it something to be done only at “Vegas” or can you also adjust the audio track at “DVD architect”?
3- Another topic. How do I put a nice “filmish” compressor that gives the master audio output, the finale crisp.

    Thanx alot on advance

Do not alter the audio in your Vegas project to make it louder. There is probably nothing wrong with it. The audio is low because of the AC3 profile that is used by default when you render separate a AC3 file. In the Render template open the Custom properties. On the Audio Service tab under Dialog normalization the default is -27 dB, change it to -30 dB (I find that -31 dB is sometimes too loud but try it and see). Then on the Preprocessing tab change both the Line mode profile and RF mode profile to None. This will let the true volume of your project through and not apply these profiles to it.

As for a final mastering sheen, I would use a mastering tool like iZotope Ozone 3 on the master audio bus. This will affect all of the audio in your project and let you give it some compression and widening. If you want to stick with Vegas tools try the Wave Hammer Surround FX with the Master for 16-bit preset and tweak from there.

Thanx alot John. That AC3 trick was brilliant.
And the “Wave hammer” effect is cool too. It makes a sound lot more crispy, but here apears another problem John.

    Problem:
We have recorded the whole movie with a boom stick, so “wave hammer” not only makes the dialog crispy, but also makes the backround noice also more crispy, so you actually hear a constant tone, very low but it is still there.

    What have I tried:
When I unchek the “Wave hammer”, then the background noice is not so obviuse and loud.

    Question:
1- How can I keep the nice crisp of “Wave Hammer” but reduce the backgrond noice?
2- Is there any affects at Vegas, (some sort of gate etc) that can “kill” that background noice?

    Thanx on advance

    John I fixed it.

Excellent! That’s exactly what I would have done. 😉 Glad you got it all sorted out.
